How to Make a QR Menu: Free and Set Up the Right Way
4-minute read · Prepared by the Orderly team
There are two kinds of QR menu — know the difference
- PDF / standalone menu: You open a file or a separate menu website. It's cheap, but every time a price changes you update it in two places; a forgotten update means an argument with a customer.
- Menu integrated with the system: The menu uses the same data as your POS system. You change the price at the till and it changes on the QR menu instantly. This is the right way.
Setup steps
- 1. Enter your products into the system. Category, price, description and photo — once.
- 2. Generate QR codes. Orderly generates a separate QR code for each table, with your logo and ready to print.
- 3. Place them on the tables. A QR code stand or table sticker is enough.
- 4. Turn on ordering if you want. The QR menu and QR ordering are managed separately; you can start with just the menu and turn on ordering later.
Things to watch out for
- Photo quality directly affects sales; shoot in daylight on a plain background.
- Multiple languages: if you're in a tourist area, your menu should have English and German versions. In Orderly, adding a language doesn't change the URL, so your printed QR codes stay valid.
- Fake order protection: if you turn on QR ordering, use location verification. In Orderly, users more than 50 meters from the business can't place orders.
The question of cost
In some systems, the QR menu is a separate module whose annual fee comes close to the license price. With Orderly, the QR menu and QR ordering are included in the annual license at no extra cost.
Frequently asked questions
Not with Orderly. The menu lives inside the system; products and prices are managed in one place, and changes appear on the menu instantly.
Orders you approve go straight into the bill and the kitchen flow; calling a waiter is built into the menu too.
Turkish, English and German come ready to use, and there's no limit on the number of languages. There are separate translation fields for product names and descriptions.
